This collection contains pre-confirmation records from the Karelia region, Finland, between the years 1859 and 1921. Olavi Paavolainen was a Finnish writer, essayist, journalist, poet, and cultural influencer. In the 1920s, Paavolainen rode the wave of modernism and was influential in Tulenkantaj , a well-known pro-European writer's club. In his texts from the 1920s and 1930s, Paavolainen introduced Finns to the cultural phenomena of his time from Surrealism to National Socialism. Paavolainen's best-known contribution from the 1940s is the war diary Synkkä sikpinpuhelu (1946), whose diverse content is the result of vantage points in Mikkeli's headquarters , in Helsinki, and on the front, from which Paavolainen was able to observe the war.
